"Signs & Symbols" by Vladimir Nabokov

Événement

Join us for a conversation around one of the most haunting short stories of the twentieth century: Vladimir Nabokov’s “Signs and Symbols” (1948). In just a few pages, an elderly émigré couple set out to visit their troubled son on his birthday. Nothing goes quite as planned. A delayed subway, a gift that can’t be given, a few photographs, a phone that rings in the night. Nabokov builds a story in which every small detail seems to mean something, and then dares us to decide whether that meaning is in the world or only in the mind of the reader. CULTURE MONTRÉAL EN CARTE

About this map

Montréal has a rich cultural offering, but information is scattered across websites, social networks, noticeboards and posters. Getting an overview can be difficult. Montréal en culture aims to simplify discovery by bringing cultural activities together in all their variety. The project is also inspired, with some nostalgia, by the weekly calendar of the cultural magazine View, which featured a varied offering, from shows to talks and from popular events to more unconventional activities. Adding a map, Montréal en culture invites you to explore that richness across the city. Still a prototype, this independent project aims to become an essential reference for cultural outings in Montréal.

The site was originally designed for desktop use. A mobile interface is now available.

A broad understanding of culture

The directory takes a broad view of culture: artistic creation, presentation, heritage, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for discovery or participation. It covers the Montréal urban agglomeration, including its associated islands. Its scope develops with the sources and activities recorded.
