First in the Family: The hidden curriculum of graduate studies

Événement

Graduate school comes with more than coursework, research, and academic milestones. It also involves a hidden curriculum: the unwritten rules, expectations, and norms that shape how students navigate academic life but are rarely explicitly taught. This supportive group is designed to make those expectations visible, particularly for first-generation graduate students who may not have inherited access to academic knowledge or professional networks. Participants will have the opportunities to share their experiences, as well as explore topics such as communicating with faculty and their supervisor, building relationships with mentors, seeking funding and opportunities, participating in academic spaces, and understanding professional expectations. Registration is appreciated, but if you want to talk, please just drop in. Objectives To build confidence and find a sense of community with people who have similar struggles as you. To develop practical strategies for academic and professional situations while navigating graduate school. To identify and understand the hidden expectations and norms in graduate school. CULTURE MONTRÉAL EN CARTE

About this map

Montréal has a rich cultural offering, but information is scattered across websites, social networks, noticeboards and posters. Getting an overview can be difficult. Montréal en culture aims to simplify discovery by bringing cultural activities together in all their variety. The project is also inspired, with some nostalgia, by the weekly calendar of the cultural magazine View, which featured a varied offering, from shows to talks and from popular events to more unconventional activities. Adding a map, Montréal en culture invites you to explore that richness across the city. Still a prototype, this independent project aims to become an essential reference for cultural outings in Montréal.

The site was originally designed for desktop use. A mobile interface is now available.

A broad understanding of culture

The directory takes a broad view of culture: artistic creation, presentation, heritage, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for discovery or participation. It covers the Montréal urban agglomeration, including its associated islands. Its scope develops with the sources and activities recorded.
