Événement

About the seriesIn her work the contemporary artist Chiharu Shiota weaves tangled webs that offer a meditation on memory the tribulations of illness aging and grief and the conflicts that make up the human experience. It is in this spirit that the artist presents us with a selection of films that reflect the theme of the human condition as a quest for meaning. “I came to think that living and dying really belong to the same dimension [...] When our time is up perhaps all of us dissolve into this universe. Maybe death is not a return to nothingness but rather no more than a matter of assimilating into something: not an extinguishment from life into death but a merging into something vaster than us. This is how I began incorporating death into my work: death not as an ending but as something equivalent to life.” – Chiharu Shiota ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONVersion: No subtitlesLength: 150 minutesDirector: Lars von TrierYear: 2003 Reservation terms: Upon arrival at the screening please present your booking confirmation at the Cinéma du Musée front desk. CULTURE MONTRÉAL EN CARTE

About this map

Montréal has a rich cultural offering, but information is scattered across websites, social networks, noticeboards and posters. Getting an overview can be difficult. Montréal en culture aims to simplify discovery by bringing cultural activities together in all their variety. The project is also inspired, with some nostalgia, by the weekly calendar of the cultural magazine View, which featured a varied offering, from shows to talks and from popular events to more unconventional activities. Adding a map, Montréal en culture invites you to explore that richness across the city. Still a prototype, this independent project aims to become an essential reference for cultural outings in Montréal.

The site was originally designed for desktop use. A mobile interface is now available.

A broad understanding of culture

The directory takes a broad view of culture: artistic creation, presentation, heritage, knowledge sharing, and opportunities for discovery or participation. It covers the Montréal urban agglomeration, including its associated islands. Its scope develops with the sources and activities recorded.
